When you step on the field, what do you see?

Grass? Goalposts? A spray-painted rectangle? Yard lines? Bleachers?

Or do you visualize a game, and your role in it?

For most athletes, it’s easier to see the physical aspects of the field of
play – but very difficult to visualize themselves in that arena. Which
is an impediment to success, because the most important factor of a
player is their mindset. You are the only aspect of the field that you
have control over.

Why is this mindset important? Because it allows you to be
relentless and to never give up. If you try to control the entire field,
you will fail – and you will fail hard. You will not only become
discouraged, but you will become rightly discouraged – because you
have taken on an impossible task.

But if you set out to control only yourself, and the role you play in
the game, and to maximize that to the best of your abilities? That’s a
goal you can achieve. And with the right mindset, if you can achieve
it, you will achieve it. You will be relentless and aggressive and
unafraid of making mistakes. You will never give up.

When you step onto the field, what do you see?

Yourself. Opportunity. Potential.

Seize it.
